Who is a “RINO”?

Today I want to look at the concept of a “RINO”, Republican In Name Only. I’d like to start the conversation with a definition of a “Republican”. I’d like to start with the concept of “Republican” as it is represented by the original Republican President of the United States of American. The individual human being often cited as the GOAT President, “The Greatest President of All Time”, Abraham Lincoln.

I suspect that the best place to begin that conversation is with one of the greatest speeches of all time, the Gettysburg Address:

Delivered at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

I have taken the liberty to highlight and emphasize the main components of President Lincoln’s concept of a Republican, and, in fact, would submit that these words, in defining a TRUE Republican, in defining the ORIGINAL Republican, stands in stark contrast to what we are being told is a “Republican”.

Let us take these brave words of dedication and reestablish that very commitment again. Let us make sure that government “shall not perish from the earth”.

Let us NOW take an oath to BE that Republican Party again. Let us stop the name calling. Let us stop the bullying. Let us stop the unfettered denigration of the United States of America’s Constitution and return to the government “of the people, by the people, for the people” that actually IS the Republican Party of the United States of America.

I submit to you that I am NOT the RINO. I call on all TRUE REPUBLICANs to embrace the true leader and definer of a Republican Party member and GET TO WORK ON REBUILDING AMERICA in the way that Abraham Lincoln challenged us to be, a county OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE!
